Fulham 2-1 Chelsea
The perfect match to sum up Chelsea's campaign.
João Félix comes on a six month loan in the Winter transfer window to lead the attack. Reenergizing the attack, Chelsea finally get a multitude of shots on net in his first appearance.
The hope that a new season brings with it. Tuchel, with added ammunition in attack, are stunned by a drubbing from Leeds United States of America. A stunning upset against Dinamo Zagreb in the opening match of the Champions League. Suddenly, the hope in the heart of the London Blues was extinguished. Too many unforgivable disappointments, ultimately leading Boehly to relive the German gaffer of his duties.
An inspiring attacking display, with a surprising 7-2 shots on target in favor of Chelsea in the first half. A reinvigorated attack led by the talisman Félix, ultimately overshadowed by the only stat that matters, goals. Chelsea concede first. The two best chances of the opening half are created by Fulham and former Chelsea winger, Willian. Hope is lost. Chelsea are heading to another defeat.
Bohely steals Graham Potter from Brighton Hove & Albion, activating his $18.4 million release clause to do so. A history of coaching that didn't inspire much hope, but the hiring offered a change. And in sports, a change, what is next, is often seen as better.
A moment of brilliance from Mason Mount. A freek kick in threatening territory. Mount bravely goes for goal, hits the post, and Koulibaly steals a sitter. Chelsea, on their way to certain defeat, make a splash in hopes that the ripples reverse the current. 1-1 moments into the second half.
Injuries strike, and strike, and strike again. Like the ocean, the waves keep on coming.
Zakaria goes down. After losing forwards Pulisic and Sterling just a week ago, the paper thin line in the midfield sees another casualty. The nightmare that will not end.
Defeat after defeat. Injury after injury. Seven losses, one win, and one draw in their last nine battles. Injury, defeat, injury, defeat. Rinse and repeat.
Four minutes after the injury to Zakaria, tragedy turns in to calamity. João Félix earns a straight red card in his Chelsea debut. A reckless challenge that typically is accompanied with a three match ban. Drastically reducing the value of Félix's six month loan Chaos. Down to 10 men on the pitch, away at Fulham, Chelsea concede. The Blues continue as Chelsea ultimately lose 2-1.
Another loss, both on the record and to the team sheet. Rinse and repeat. A stagnant 10th place in the league after a 7-4-7 record. A season so ridiculous that you could not write it.
